Ricky Miezan: The Specimen

Ricky Miezan Lacrosse

If you are looking for Ricky Miezan, you will probably find him out on a field dragging a gigantic tire attached to his waist. That’s just one of the many things he has done to become one of the best players in the 2018 class. Since his freshman year, Miezan has turned heads with his ridiculous athletic ability that leaves college coaches and fans drooling. His six-foot-three, 220-pound frame and absurd footwork make him virtually impossible to guard. If you need a preview, look no further:

The scary part is, he is just getting started. Miezan has a very special personal trainer, his father, who also happens to be a former Olympian. His father’s guidance has transformed him into an elite athlete with incredible strength. After playing football for just one year, Miezan started earning Division 1 offers from football programs such as Wisconsin, Michigan State, and Syracuse. “Football has been an amazing experience. It’s a really physical game, and I enjoy playing it.”

In September 2016, Ty Xanders of Recruiting Rundown ranked University of North Carolina commit Miezan as the top prospect in the entire 2018 class. The high ranking came with some pressure: “With the ranking, there is certainly an expectation every time I play. Overall, it has made me a better player by pushing me to work harder and perform.” Miezan relies on his friends and family as a support system through the ups and downs of athletics. “My friends and family are everything to me. No matter how I play, they are always there to lift me up and support me throughout this process.”

With so much attention drawn from his lacrosse and football success, Miezan is an important ambassador for the sport of lacrosse. Despite his high-profile football offers, he wants to stay committed to playing lacrosse and potentially football at North Carolina. His decision to play college lacrosse will help other impressive athletes join the lacrosse community and grow the game.

In 2018, Miezan will join Coach Breschi and the North Carolina lacrosse team with college-ready physicality that will allow him to immediately compete for playing time. His style of play reminds me of Myles Jones, an incredible athlete who blossomed during his college lacrosse career. Even with so much hype around him, Miezan is happy to enjoy the process and let his hard work speak for itself. “My biggest advice to all younger players is this: let the hard work pay off. Work as hard as you can and trust yourself every step of the way.” I look forward to watching Miezan develop as a player and leader at the next level and beyond.
